    Description

Integrating Without Losing Yourself in Quebec

First INTÉGRA+ socio-professional integration workshop: building a successful professional life while preserving your values and family balance

    Wednesday, October 28, 2026 | 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. | Free admission
Hybrid format: in person at the NDG Community Council office, 5964 Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Avenue, Suite 206, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1N1, and online via Zoom.

Settling in Quebec involves much more than moving to a new country or entering a new professional environment. For many immigrant professionals, it means learning new social and workplace codes, rebuilding a network, having their skills and experience recognized, pursuing new career opportunities and, at the same time, supporting their families through this transition. How can we find our place in a new society without losing the values, family ties and personal foundations that define who we are?

As part of INTÉGRA+ – Social Inclusion and Community Leadership in Montreal, Promotion for Development – PROMODEV is organizing its first workshop to address these important realities. The goal is to create a space for dialogue where newcomers, established immigrant professionals, young professionals, parents, mentors and experienced professionals can meet, share their experiences and exchange practical strategies for successful integration.

A Dialogue Across Experiences and Generations

The workshop will explore key aspects of rebuilding a professional career in Quebec, recognizing and promoting skills acquired abroad, developing new professional networks, understanding Quebec workplace culture, and navigating the personal and family challenges that can accompany integration.

Special attention will be given to a question that is too often overlooked: How can we advance professionally without compromising family stability and well-being? Integration should not be measured solely by obtaining a job. It also involves the ability of individuals and their families to establish new points of reference, build meaningful relationships, participate in their communities and create a sustainable future in Quebec.

    A Participatory Format

Rather than a traditional conference, the workshop will feature personal testimonials, an intergenerational panel discussion, exchanges with participants and networking opportunities. Professionals who have experienced different stages of the integration process will share not only their successes, but also the adjustments, decisions and lessons that have shaped their journeys.

The discussion will focus on four key questions:

    1. How can we adapt to Quebec’s professional and social environment without losing our identity and values?
    2. How can we effectively showcase in Quebec the skills, qualifications and professional experience acquired abroad?
    3. How can we build a professional and community network when we are starting almost from scratch?
    4. How can we balance integration, professional ambitions, parenting responsibilities and family stability?

    Building Bridges

This first gathering also aims to create meaningful connections among participants. An experienced professional can become a valuable resource for a newcomer; a young professional can bring a fresh perspective; and someone who has successfully navigated the integration process can share the knowledge and advice they wish they had received when they first arrived.

The hybrid format will allow participants to attend either in person at the NDG Community Council office or online via Zoom, making the workshop accessible to a broader audience.
